Now. Why are we writing about this Japanese dish and how is it related to facials? You’re soon to find out. Your palate may not appreciate this sticky stringy fermented soybeans, but your skin will slurp it right up.
What is Nattō?
It is a traditional Japanese health food made with fermented soybeans. Nattō is made by boiling soybeans, which are then fermented by adding the bacteria Bacillus Subtilis into the mixture. After a day of fermentation, the soybeans develop their gooey and distinct fermented scent.
Although Nattō looks and smells funky, it is actually the health-conscious’ dream. When consumed, it offers several health benefits i.e. promotes clearer skin, promotes weight loss, aids in digestion, prevents stroke & heart attack, and decreases risks of cancer.
Nattō in Skin Care
Nattō Beans contain a remarkably hydrating compound – the Gamma PGA. This potent compound, which represented a major breakthrough in the science of skincare, is highly effective in combating ageing, retaining moisture and offering nourishment to the skin.
Like other fermented skin care ingredients, e.g. Pitera™ from SK-II, Gamma PGA boasts tons of antioxidants with high water absorbability and moisture-retaining capabilities. It increases the skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF), improves the skin’s structural integrity, reduces TransEpidermal Water Loss (TWEL) and boosts cell turnover to deliver brighter, firmer and younger-looking skin with an even-toned glow.
This skin food is power-packed with enzymes, vitamins, and amino acids like:
- Lecithin: A skin softening, conditioning and smoothing agent
- Vitamin E: A powerful antioxidant to prevent skin damage from free radicals
- Vitamin K2: Visibly prevents fine lines
Nattō is, in fact, according to Johnson & Johnson’s research, some of the best natural ingredient for skin brightening and depigmentation.
What are you waiting for? Drop by a Japanese grocery store, pick up some Nattō, and slather it all over your face. Just kidding. Don’t do that. Instead, try our Nattō Rescue Gold Facial at a first trial of only $78. 😉
